Bill Mahon
Vice president for University Relations at Penn State
Bill was born in Altoona , PA.
He received a BA in journalism from Lock Haven State University in 1976 and Masters in Speech Communication from Penn State in 1994.
He worked for eight years as a reporter and editor of the Lewistown, PA, Sentinel, and has worked at Penn State since 1984. In his current role he serves as chief spokesman for Penn State and oversees the operation of the departments of public information, marketing and advertising, publications, and special events.
Bill is the creator of the Penn State Newswire system, an e-mail based news service that delivers Penn State stories to more than a half million subscribers from more than 120 countries. He is a frequent speaker nationally on issues related to innovative ways to use the Internet to deliver stories, videos, photos and podcasts directly to the public.
In his work at Penn State he is involved in projects with the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC), the American Association of Universities (AAU), the Big Ten Network, and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
His wife, Nancy, teaches in the MBA program of the Smeal College of Business and they have three children: Chloe, Christopher and Michaela.
